Public Affairs Specialist

This position is open to Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) and Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) employees only. This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), Office of Public Affairs (OPA) located in Sterling, VA. At the full performance level (GS-14) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
Incumbent researches, writes, and edits internal and external written products such as articles, speeches, presentations, website materials, and testimony on the organization, missions, operations, and needs of the Bureau. Performs additional research and rewrites submissions to organize, balance, and apply a consistent sense of style, grammar, and flow to the finished product. Responsible for planning, organizing, and developing programs for and determining effective dissemination of information through the appropriate mass communications media in support of the bureau's mission. Develops effective and measurable communication strategies and outreach activities to the media and the general public through the BOEM home page. Coordinates development and presentation of background and briefing materials for senior management and/or staff prior to their participation in an interview with print or news media representatives regarding the bureau's program activities. BOEM has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval. This vacancy may be used to fill additional positions as vacancies become available. Minimum Qualification Requirements:
To qualify for this position you must meet the (1) Basic Educational Requirements AND/OR (2) Specialized Experience for the series to which you are applying. Specialized Experience To qualify for the GS-14, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated
Experience:
Must meet all. 1) prepares speeches, testimony, and other written documents for senior officials/organizations; 2) writing and reviewing press releases, website information and/or exhibit content to audiences including media or the general public; 3) advising senior management with feedback on agency or bureau communication efforts and their effectiveness; and 4) develops communication plans for senior management officials regarding the strategies to provide outreach to both media and the general public regarding program projects and events. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
