This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Container Security Initiative Division in Sterling, VA. Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your expertise to detect and prevent terrorists and instruments of terror from entering the United States. This position starts at a salary of $102,663.00 (GS-13, Step 01) to $133,465.00 (GS-13, Step 10) with promotion potential to $133,465 (GS-13 Step 10). In this GS-13 position you will become a key member of a team of homeland security professionals responsible for detecting and preventing terrorists and instruments of terror from entering the U.S. Typical work assignments include:
Performing a wide range of the more complex advisory and coordinating duties, and/or other specialized assignments involving highly sensitive cargo issues related to imports to the United States. Working under the auspices of national security, and is engaged in intelligence, counter-intelligence, or security work that directly affects national security. Analyzing information and identifies shipments that require in-depth or special emphasis inspection actions. Utilizing a variety of tools such as ATS and TECS and other systems, local criteria, etc., to differentiate and target shipments. Planning and caring out special assignments, projects, studies or investigations to explore and resolve major or complex problems in operations and enforcement activities, or to develop or implement improved or new procedures. Experience:
You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Experience as a Journeyman level CBP Officer that equipped you with the skills needed to perform the job duties. Leading, directing, supervising, or providing technical direction to others in performing inspection, intelligence analysis, examination, and law enforcement activities relating to the arrival and departure of persons, conveyances, and merchandise into the United States. Experience supervising Customs and Border Protection related work activities is preferred. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Secondary CBPO Enhanced Retirement Requirement:
The criterion is that knowledge, skill and ability in a position deemed to meet primary CBPO special retirement coverage is a mandatory prerequisite to satisfactorily perform the major duties and responsibilities of this job. In order to meet the requirements of this secondary CBP Officer position you must have permanently served in a primary CBP Officer Special Enhanced Retirement covered position, i.e. Customs Inspector, GS-1890, Immigration Inspector, GS-1816, Canine Enforcement Officer, GS-1801, or CBP Officer, GS-1895. If you currently serve in a permanent Secondary CBPO Enhanced Retirement covered position, you are exempt from this mandatory prerequisite. You must:
Meet all qualification requirements, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 06/24/2020. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
